The Rhythm Rule | When English is spoken, the speaker alternates between stressed and unstressed syllables in regular intervals, with the stresses falling within content words. This is called the Rhythm Rule. The stressed syllables of the sentence create beats.
A word with a secondary and a primary stress (e.g., thirteen) forms a phrase with another one (e.g., men) phrasal stress: final stress is the strongest, while all the others are expected to reduce their stress degree by one.
